What can I win?

The Race to Market Challenge will reward the developer whose paid application earns the most revenue within the contest period and the developer whose free application is downloaded the most within the contest period. Winners will receive a prize package including a Microsoft Surface table and developer kit, free online marketing and promotion of their application, plus a one-of-a-kind trophy.

The Microsoft Surface is a 30-inch tabletop multi-touch display that uses a camera-based vision system to interact with objects placed on its screen and lets users grab and move digital content with simple hand gestures and touches. The Surface developer kit includes the Microsoft Surface SDK SP1, Windows Vista Business (SP1), and all other software required to develop and test Microsoft Surface applications.

Online promotion and marketing include custom-built advertisements of your application on Microsoft Windows Phone News, Windowsphone.com, developer.windowsphone.com, Facebook, and Twitter.

There are a few important bits of information you’ll need to have at hand when you register for Windows Marketplace for Mobile. The following list will help you prepare.

Windows Live ID: Your Live ID is a single e-mail address you can use to sign in to Windows Marketplace for Mobile, Windows Live Messenger, Windows Live Hotmail, and other sites and services. You can get a Windows Live ID here.

Business details: Selling mobile applications is a business like any other, and we’ll need your business details to make sure we’re square with the taxman. Make sure you have this information handy:

  • Company name
  • Your job role
  • Company Web site
  • Corporate contact including an e-mail address and phone number
  • Company address
  • Tax entity type
  • US taxpayer ID
